Teleconverters are one of those things people buy when they first start in photography because they sound like a neat idea. However, they soon get put in a drawer and never get used again because they really don't work that well in practice.
Other Teleconverters. Canon Extender EF 2x III - Pros & Cons. Closeup performance was similarly appealing. image quality holds up very well. image quality from the Mark IIIs are better than their predecessors. this is quite a nice boost in flexibility. build quality The build quality is excellent.
Only Canon prime lenses 130mm or longer and the various versions of the 70-200mm and 100-400mm are officially compatible with the Canon extenders. To maintain auto focus with any of the Rebel/xx0D and xx00D series of cameras you will need a lens with f/4 or faster maximum aperture when using a 1.4X extender or teleconverter and a lens with f/2.
This Canon Extender 2x II is an ultra high performance teleconverter for use with Canon's high-performance telephoto lenses on all Canon EOS digital and 35mm cameras. It multiplies your focal length by 2x and makes your effective aperture two stops less. It makes your 70-200/2.8 into a 140-400mm f/5.6, or your 300mm f/2.8 into a 600mm f/5.6.
70-200 F/4 IS with 2x extender. I have seen very little written about this combo and nearly everything that is said is not complimentary. I took the combo out the other evening and was pleasantly surprised with the results. I used a 5D mark iv so PDAF autofocus is possible despite a maximum aperture of F/8.
Sigma's dedicated 2x APO teleconverter can be mounted between select lenses and the camera body to increase the focal length by the power of 2.0x. The new multi layer coating reduces flare and ghosting, which is a common problem with digital cameras. They demonstrate best performance with DG series lenses. It also offers maximum photography
A better combo would be the Canon 400mm f/5.6 with Canon 2X TC or the Canon 300mm f/4 IS with Canon 2X TC. These combos offer faster AF in many situations and offer similar or superior sharpness. With all this said I find the Tamron the best tool for the things I shoot (birds, sports) when I need the reach of a 400mm+ lens.
